A Snow Leopard (Uncia uncia) rssts in the shade in the Snow Leopard exhibit at the Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
The snow leopard is sparcely distributed throughout the rocky alpine habits of the Central Asian mountains: the Himalayas of Bhutan, India, Nepal and Tibet; Kasakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Russia of the former Soviet Union; The Republic of China and into the Mongolian Republic and high ranges of Afghanistan. Common names include "Irbis," in Russian and Mongoloan habitats; "Barfani chita," in Urdu and Hindi languages; "Heung chituwa," in Nepali tongue; "Shan," in Ladakhi; and "Sah," in its range throughout Tibet.
