This is the underside of A feeding Crown of Thorns Sea Star (Acanthaster plancii) on a sea rod coral on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Blamed for extensive coral damage on the reef, this Sea Star basically absorbs the coral when it eats. Crown-of-thorns Sea Stars thrive in certain conditions and because thier main predator - The Triton Trumpet has been hunted to almost extinction for its shell.
