Close up of the spines that grow on the arms of the Crown of Thorns Sea Star (Acanthaster planci). Image taken on a coral reef in the Banda Sea in Indonesia. These Sea Stars prey on corals and when their numbers are high can be devastating to an ecosystem. One of the issues causing such high numbers is the over harvesting of their natural predator - the Triton Shell.
