A typical shrimp goby/shrimp pair, with a Gold-Speckled Shrimpgoby (Ctenogobiops pomastictus) and a Alpheid Shrimp (Alpheus sp.) on the ocean floor in the Banda Sea in Indonesia.
These pairs maintain their shared burrows with the goby playing guard while the shrimp moves out debris and other sand. These shrimp are typically blind. The shrimp maintains an antenna or other contact with the goby so it is aware of when to retreat into it's burrow.
