A Spotted Scorpionfish (Scorpaena plumieri) demonstrates the camouflage that it is well known for in this coral reef scene on the Delray Ledges dive site off the coast of Boynton Beach / Delray Beach in Florida, USA.
These ambush predators lie in wait for prey to swim by and then lunge forward and generally swallow their target whole.
The spines on the back of these fish are poisonous and can cause humans intense pain and illness, although there are no known fatalities attributed to this species.
