An enormous 7 foot long Giant Grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus) swims through a school of fish at the bow of the wreck of the SS Yongala off the coast of Townsville in Queensland, Australia.
These massive fish can weigh as much as 800 lbs and are considered the largest reef dwelling fish in the world. They are normally solitary or seen in pairs. This pair live on this wreck and can be found near the bow line. In Australia this species is also known as the Queensland Grouper.
Like most groupers, these fish are very slow to mature and were over-fished. They are now a protected species and despite a wide range are considered a vulnerable species.
