A colony of Foram Reef Builder plants (Marginopora vertebralis) growing on a coral reef on the Wheeler Reef system in the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Townsville in Queensland, Australia.
The shells from these forams are believed to be the source of over 50% of the calcareous sedimentary rock formed on the sea bottoms. They are not truly plants, but actually single cell animals.
