A large Reef Lizardfish (Synodus variegatus) perched on top of a coral reef head waiting for an opportunity to attack any prey that swims by.
This the most common of the Lizardfish found in southern tropical waters and also one of the largest. They generally allow close approach especially when they feel they have a prime ambush location.
Image taken on the Wheeler Reef system within the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Townsville, Queensland, Australia.
