(see this users gallery) One of the longest of the Pipefish species, often exceeding 18 inches, this is a dark black colored Short-tailed Pipefish (Trachyrhhampus bicoarctatus).
Image taken on the muck shore dive at Basura in Anilao in the Batangas region of The Philippines where this rare species is very common locally. A variety of color variations can be seen in the area including white, yellow, orange, gray and this dark almost black coloration.
