A juvenile Ribbon Eel (Rhinomuraena quaesita) extends itself out of its burrow with its mouth wide open displaying the large fan shaped nostrils and chin barbels. Image taken on the Mainit Point dive site off the coast of Anilao in The Philippines.
Ribbon Eels go through various gender stages distinguished by color. The juvenile form display this black phase with a yellow stripe, changing into to the male dark blue form at about 60 cms and the to the female pale blue to totally yellow phase at about 85cms.
