An Anemone Hermit Crab (Dardanus pedunculatus) moves across a shallow coral reef. This is one of the most widespread of the Hermit Crab species in tropical pacific waters and can be found at night on most coral reefs. Often their shell is covered in Anemones which are used both to hide their shell, but also as protection.
This specimen was sighted on the Basura shore dive in Anilao in the Batangas region of The Philippines.
