A Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) performs a low side breach with a flailing of its huge wedge like pectoral fin into the air. A pod of common dolphins swim around the whale, possibly causing this behaviour.
It is amazing to see something this large come completely out of the water with apparent ease, and cause an immense splash upon landing.
This whale lands in the water from its breach causing a huge splash in front of the coastline of the Wild Coast region of South Africa near Port St Johns.
These whales can grown to upwards of 52 feet and weigh as much as 50 tons. They are also responsible for majorit of the more beautiful the 'whale songs' that have become synomous with the general public.
