(see this users gallery) A Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) spy hops by vertically bringing the top half of their body out of the water. It is amazing to see something this large come out of the water with apparent ease, and cause an immense splash upon landing even on a large spy hop rather than a full breech.
This sequence of a spyhopping whale was photographed off of the coast of the Wild Coast region of South Africa near Port St Johns.
