A pod of Long Beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus capensis) swim in front of the hills on the coastline in the Wid Coast region of South Africa bot far from Port St Johns.
Previously classified as D. delphis or the Short beaked Common Dolphin, population numbers for this species is still unknown as previous study was on the combined species.
These dolphins can appear in huge superpods of thousands of individuals especially during the Sardine Run in this area of Souh Africa where they are the primary predators and organizers of bait balls.
