A Long Beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus capensis) jumps out of the water just off the coast near Port St Johns in the Wild Coast region of South Africa.
Previously classified as D. delphis or the Short beaked Common Dolphin, knowledge of this species is limited as most study was on the other species.
These dolphins can appear in huge superpods of thousands of individuals especially during the Sardine Run in this area of Souh Africa where they are the primary predators and organizers of bait balls.
