The unfortunate sight of he damage that monofilament fishing line can do to marine life - it this case a large Green Moray Eel ([/i]Gymnothorax funebris[/i]) with a large hook in its mouth with a length of monofilament fishing line attached. This fishing line had twisted around a set of coral and this moray was trapped.
While these images were taken, friends diving with me took a pair of dive shears and freed the eel from the line. We were unable to remove the hook unfortuently.
Image taken on the Aligator Reef dive site off the coast of Key Largo / Tavernier in Florida, USA.
