(see this users gallery) A male Tiger Cardinalfish (Cheilodipterus macrodon) mouth broods his eggs. This species features eight red-brown stripes and possesses large, visible pointed teeth.
As with all cardinalfish, the male of this species incubates the egg mass in its mouth, and as can be seen in this image, as the eggs get close to hatching the jaw expands to compensate.
This speciman was part of a small school of these fish in a break in the coral reef surrounding Racha Yai Island off the coast of Phuket, Thailand in the Andaman Sea.
