A close up of the branches on a Giant Basket Star (Astrophyton muricatum) open at night on a coral reef head which is part of the Snapper Ledge dive site off the coast of Key Largo and Islamorada in Florida.
These huge stars curl into a tight ball during the day - generally on sea rods or similar corals, before opening at night to filter feed by facing into the ocean current.
