A rather wet and fluffy looking Stanley Crane ( Anthropoides paradisea) stands on one leg in its exhibit at the Miami MetroZoo in Florida, USA.
This beautiful bird is the national bird of South Africa and the bird of the royal house of Zulu / Zulus. Although still abundant in parts of its historic range, the Blue Crane (as it is also known) has experienced significant declines in many areas over the past couple of decades and has now officially been classified critically endangered by the IUCN.
