Found on the side of a large coral bommie in a large Gorgonian Sea Fan, this Longnose Hawkfish (Oxycirrhites typus) displays the typical needle like nose of this species. This fish is sought after highly by photographers.
It is known to be predator of smaller fish, possibly including pygmy seahorses which are also found on these types of sea fans.
Image taken on the Pinnacle dive site which is part of the Great Deatched Reef system in far north Queensland in Australia.
Detached Reef's in this remote area are named as they are near - but not directly attached to the Great Barrier Reef system.
