The briliantly colored male Spinecheek anemonefish (Premnas biaculeatus) is perhaps the most beautiful and spectacular of the Anemonefish species. The feamle is larger and a darky, dusky red, making the male even more visible and distintive in comparison.
The Spine is clearly visible on the adults of the species, crossing the first silver or white band on the fishes body and is visible in this image.
The Spinecheek Anemonefish is known only to associate with the Entacmaea quadricolor Anemone.
A Fire Dartfish (Nemateleotris magnifica) or Red Fire Goby is one of the most spectacular fish on tropical reefs and one of the most difficult to photograph as they hover over their burrows on the sandy ocean floor near coral reefs.
Image taken on the South Mantis dive site which is part of the Northern Great Deatched Reef system in far north Queensland in Australia.
Detached Reef's in the area are named as they are near - but not directly attached to the Great Barrier Reef system.
