One of the most dangerous of all sea animals, this is a Geographic Cone Shell (Conus geographus). While not aggressive towards humans or other large animals, this predatory cone shell has an arsenal of poisonous harpoons which it uses to hunt fish and other prey.
People who have accidently handled specimans that have washed up on shore, or placed them in clothing or even tried to clean them out have become targets, and records show that the poison has proven strong enough to kill at least 36 people during the twentieth century.
This speciman was sighted during a night dive on the "Twin Rocks" shore dive in front of the Planet Dive resort in Anilao in the Batangas region of The Philippines.
