A female Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus) with a largish joey feeding from her pouch. The Red Kangaroo is the largest of the marsupial species, and can reach over 6 feet in height and weight close to 200 pounds. The Red is traditionally the species of Kangaroo people think about when they think of Australia. Males are more likely to display the red coloration, while females tend to almost have blue fur as shown in this image.
This image was taken at the Billabong Sanctuary Zoo just outside Townsville in Central Queensland, Australia
